First Batch Done!

I picked up some library books, my race packet, and some chicken while out running errands this morning.  Then I came home and started my first batch of Brinkley food.  I used ingredients I had on hand and that I'd seen on various websites with homemade dog food recipes.  I'm not sure I've got the proportions correct.  I think there needs to be more meat.

Dog Chow Take One

2lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breast
2 cups white, long grain rice
1 large sweet potato
1 cup brocolli
1 cup celery

I put everything a big pot and with some water to cover.  After bringing it to a boil, I let it simmer for 2.5 hours.  I then divided it all out into 1.5 cup servings.  My best guess would be that a 1.5 cup serving runs about 350 calories or less.  For now, it will be mixed in with a little kibble to help his digestive system adjust.  Since we're still trying to lose a few pounds, we'll start out on the low end and increase servings size as we get him to his goal weight.  :-)  It's just like humans!

Brinkley gobbled up his first meal!!  LOVED it!  He licked his bowl clean!  I've got enough to last us five days but I'm going to make another concoction tomorrow.  I'll get a stock going in the freezer that way I'm not always pinched to be cooking something.
