I made my second run of the Bolder Boulder on Monday morning. Bryn and I caught the bus about 6 and made it to the start area about an hour early. Our wave wasn't set to start until 8:29 so we watched wave after wave accumulate and start. It's pretty entertaining to watch such a HUGE race play out. It's definitely the most well organized race I've ever run.
Just ignore the chubby legs.
Last year we ran in the military wave so we continued our tradition this year. The Marines were on hand same as every year before. Bryn and I have made it a goal now to keep pace with them through the first mile. The passed within the first quarter mile and disappeared from site pretty quickly. I think we would need to run about a ten minute pace to keep up with them.
It was a pretty great race. It was super hot out and both of us feeling it pretty bad by mile two. Around mile three we stopped to walk a bit, which helped quite a bit. Bryn told me to run on without her so I took off up a decent sized hill towards the race's summit, 5350 ft - ish. The second part of the race went by pretty quickly and I finished pretty good. My last miles were under 12 minute miles. Given the heat and hills, I'll take that.
Next year though... next year I'm keeping time with the Marines and I'm gunning for a 66 minute or less race!
