Strawberries!

I have a bumper crop of strawberries this year - at least when you take into consideration my past failed attempts at growing strawberries.  I have one strawberry plant and look at the cute little bunch of strawberries I have.  I had no idea either.  I was out watering plants this morning and saw a flash of red.  I moved a leaf and squeed with excitement!! Strawberries!  That's plural, folks!  Check 'em out ...

Also flourishing on the patio these days is my basil.  I hold a special place in my heart for my sweet basil.  I planted it from seeds way back in March or April.  Within weeks I had little basil starts.  I envisioned jars of pesto lining my pantry.  I should have thinned my starts.  I should have transplanted them.  But I didn't.  Their growth was severely stunted.  A few weeks ago I finally got around to thinning and transplanting by deliciously aromatic starts.

Now they are growing strong!  I may even be able to pick a few leaves and make a meal's worth of pesto.  Check 'em out...

One day, in addition to the goats and chickens, I will have a huge garden.  Inside that garden will be a very generous amount of basil.  Enough so that I can make fresh pesto all summer long and freeze enough to make pesto all winter long!  Mmmm!
